Volvo claims Crash-Proof cars by 2020

February 13, 2013

In 2008 Volvo stated something nobody would really believe, that they promise zero injuries or deaths by driving in one of their cars. As ridiculous as that sounds, its actually somewhat a possibility. Volvo is going to have to rely on a number of things for this to happen, for example their city-safty low speed collision avoidance system, and the high speed system witch allows cars to all follow each other in a line without anybody steering.

They plan on launching the pedestrian airbag (an airbag outside of your car) in many models in the US, in V40 already has this but its only sold overseas. Volvo has a team in their testing facility in gothenburg that goes to any accident within 30 miles that happened with one of their vehicles. If what they promise is true and other auto makers implement these features we could see a huge drop in automotive deaths, 1.2 million a year to be more precise.
