BMW 2014 Models

February 13, 2013

BMW has once again proved themselves amongst the best of the best, a new line of models, and a fresh sleek design. The 4-series will be offered in either rear or all wheel drive in the 428i, 428xi, 435i, and 435xi. All 428i models will have a turbocharged 2L engine and about 240 Horsepower, the 435i will have 300 horsepower. BMW says production in germany will begin in july. the 4-series coupe has something called an “Air Breather” which is a new take on aerodynamics, basically its a vent behind each front wheel. They are also renaming the series, so before this would have been the M3 but now its called the M4 because BMW stated they made many changes and wanted to hold on to exclusivity. The M4 is a little bit longer then previous models also it is about a half inch lower. The interior is mostly wood trimmed and leather trimmed, leather seats to of course.

W Motors Lykan Hypercar

February 13, 2013

The First Arabian Supercar has 750 horsepower, tops out at 245 mph and does 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, whats the catch? well its pretty simple actually…the catch is about $3.4 million us dollars. So whats different about this car then other Super cars your probably thinking, well you can get diamond encrusted headlights, you can have precious stones (whatever you want basically). There’s only 7 of these cars in the world and each one is labeled with the according number. They use the number 7 a lot on the car because it has a special meaning for arabic. It has a holographic display with interactive motion, to do everything from changing the music to viewing GPS.

The Lykan Hypersport has a new digital cluster on the dash that looks amazing, this truly is a work of art and you can tell W Motors went above and beyond for this Super Car. With the purchase of a Hypersport you get a special very expensive Cyrus Klepcys watch witch is very rare and unique as theres only 7 in the world and its valued at $200,000.

In 2008 Volvo stated something nobody would really believe, that they promise zero injuries or deaths by driving in one of their cars. As ridiculous as that sounds, its actually somewhat a possibility. Volvo is going to have to rely on a number of things for this to happen, for example their city-safty low speed collision avoidance system, and the high speed system witch allows cars to all follow each other in a line without anybody steering.

They plan on launching the pedestrian airbag (an airbag outside of your car) in many models in the US, in V40 already has this but its only sold overseas. Volvo has a team in their testing facility in gothenburg that goes to any accident within 30 miles that happened with one of their vehicles. If what they promise is true and other auto makers implement these features we could see a huge drop in automotive deaths, 1.2 million a year to be more precise.

Combating Driver Distractions

February 13, 2013

Automotive Technology Supplier Continental is in the works of trying to reduce human error while driving, which is the cause of over 1,100 accidents a year, the number is said to probably be much, much higher since most people probably aren’t going to admit to the police the were distracted by their cell phone or the cars radio. Continental said they plan to do something about it. So they developed a concept vehicle and added some new systems for it. The concept uses an infrared camera to what the drivers face and it studies their movements and watches their eyes to see what their looking at or whats distracting them. They say about 80% of accidents are related on driver mistakes so tackling this issue could save thousands of lives and thousands of accidents and injuries. Once the systems detects a driver distracted it uses its Halo Guidance system to intervene, what that does is use a light path to guide the drivers eyes back to where they should be. While this concept is still being developed it will probably become more of a reality when the industry actually adopts it, So its probably a long ways off but developments and improvements in this technology may one day save many, many lives and help reduce accidents.

what exactly is this shape changing material? and why exactly is the 2014 corvette going to blow your mind..heres the scoop the new corvette uses this “smart” material that changes shape when heat is applied, basically its a lightweight metal alloy wire that changes its form, hardness and strength, it can also be activated by an electrical field or a voltage. This new material can remember its original shape so after it changes its form it can change back. The new corvette uses this on the hatch vent to help the trunk lid close easier, this material can virtually replace over 200 mechanical movable parts on cars in the future. This material is actually cheaper then what the corvette used before, and cheaper then most motorized parts automotive companies use today. This material has helped trim the new corvette of 99 pounds from the previous model.

Rear-mounted radars

Have you ever backed into a car? A pole? A person? Well if you have you might want to check out the rear-mounted radars offered in some vehicles, Fords system dubbed the Cross Traffic Alert is offered in many new Fords. What the radars do is scan for objects behind them such as a fence, wall, pole, pedestrian ECT… and it alerts you or shows you a visual from a camera. When the radar detects traffic approaching while your backing up it also alerts you with an alarm. Most of these new systems use a hidden LCD in the mirror to show you what’s behind you. Chrysler’s version is called Cross Path Detection System. This type of technology helps drivers reduce the amount of mistakes and errors while driving, or backing up.

So what exactly is an “Active cornering headlight system” well its a system built in a lot of new luxury vehicles such as Mercedes-Benz, and even smaller car manufacturers are starting to catch on such as Volkswagen. Basically what the system does is it uses smart headlamps that turn towards the road on say a really winding road so you can always stay focused on the road and not on the side of the road or around a sharp turn. This technology has been out for a while but its starting to gain momentum in all car industries and starting to become a big part of are driving essentials. It might not be a huge revolutionary change but its an improvement, and its all these little improvements that make a car more than a car. These lights can help see things such as deer or other cars around a sharp turn you wouldn’t usually see, this could save a life, or multiple lives.

Telsa, a fairly new car manufacturer will unleash something that will change the world in automobiles, in technology and in the way you drive on a daily bases. The model X goes 0-60 in under 5 seconds, it has duel motor All-wheel drive technologies. The SUV has falcon wings, so when you open the doors they go up instead of out, which enables you to park in tighter spots, and fit in smaller garages. The seating is better then most SUVs because the 2nd row slides all the way forward and with the falcon wing doors up you can almost walk into the 3rd row instead of cramping in like most SUVs. The dash is decked out with panoramic glass and a 17’’ touchscreen. Oh, and lets not forget the Telsa X doesn’t use a single drop of gasoline, it uses a 60 or 85 kWh battery and creates 0 tailpipe emissions. Telsa has stated they plan on taking the model X to consumer market by 2014 and appears they are making progress for that possibility. You can view more of the Model X at the Telsa website http://www.teslamotors.com while you’re their you can check out the Model S as well !

4G LTE hotspot in new BMWS?

Let’s say you go on a road trip with your family, kids are screaming in the back because they’ve seen all the movies you have, their batteries in their Nintendo DS died, their bored with their Buzz Light-year action figure, what do you do now? Nothing…if you own a new BMW with the wireless 4G LTE hotspot connectivity feature. Your kids can play all day online with their tablet charging it in the outlet and browsing online at blazing fast Internet speeds. It can support up to 8 devices at any given time, and the range is around 3-10 meters, which can be manually adjusted. It is compatible with any new or existing BMW that has a telephone docking station; most of the new ones have it standard. BMW hasn’t officially released a price although they plan on announcing that sometime later this week

So…what does Audi, an Ipad, and a slot car has in common, well apparently a lot. Audi Canada recently partnered with a slot racing company called Slot Mods USA to create some pure magic. They have designed an entire track, and cars to be able to race each other, and you can do it all right from your Ipad. What they have managed to do is build the Quattro models scaled down to 1/32 of the real version. The design of the track is pretty impressive, everything has been professionally done down to the millimeter. One major creative aspect of this is not only can you use YOUR ipad to steer the cars but also the ipad app gives you a REAL time view as its being driven. It’s almost like playing a video game except the cars of real, the track is real, and your really racing other drivers, it’s just scaled down.
